Now, the gilded building has been ushered into its current glory by celebrated Belgian-born designer Jean-Michel Gathy. Every detail is infused with understated glamour.
Hotel guests enter through a staffed, street-level entrance, but the real welcome comes on the exquisite 14th floor double-height lobby. Rather than a formal check-in process at a desk, you are whisked directly to your sprawling suite. A hallway leads to a bathroom that’s larger than some NYC apartments. The spa-like space features a freestanding soaking tub, walk-in steam and rainfall shower and heated floors. The space connects to the bedroom, though illuminated rice paper screen panels can be drawn for privacy. The bedroom walks the line between spacious and cozy with a glass-enclosed working fireplace, tablet-controlled everything, a plush window seat and a seating area, perfect for in-room dining. Neutral hues and washi paper art create calming vibes.
While no one would blame guests for luxuriating in their suite, there’s much more to enjoy without leaving the building. The 25,000-square-foot spa, generously spread across three floors, is world-class and offers services from the feel-good variety to clinical-grade, assisted by medical professionals. The 65-foot heated indoor pool is equally appropriate for swimming laps or lounging on a fireplace-adjacent daybed.
The 14th floor is home to two distinct restaurants. At Arva, which you’ll also find at Aman Venice, dishes are inspired by Italy’s nuanced culinary traditions, from handmade pasta to hearty meats. Guests may choose to enjoy the sleek dining room or find a table on the Garden Terrace, where firepits, lush trees and seating vignettes are spread across its 7,000 square feet of covered outdoor space. Nama, the property’s diminutive Japanese restaurant, serves exquisitely fresh nigiri and sashimi, plus signatures such as melt-in-your-mouth miso black cod.
